9/1/2026 7:53:17 PM
1. Product Overview
The STM32F407VET6TR is a high‑performance 32‑bit microcontroller from STMicroelectronics, belonging to the STM32F4 series. It is built around the ARM® Cortex®‑M4 core with a floating‑point unit (FPU) and DSP instructions, running at up to 168 MHz and delivering 210 DMIPS. The "TR" suffix indicates tape‑and‑reel packaging, which is designed for automated surface‑mount production. The device comes in a 100‑pin LQFP package (14×14×1.4 mm) and integrates 512 KB of Flash memory and 192 KB of SRAM. It is an ideal choice for high‑performance embedded applications such as industrial control, motor drives, and IoT gateways.

3. Typical Applications
Thanks to its powerful performance and rich peripherals, the STM32F407VET6TR is widely used in:
Industrial control: PLCs, frequency inverters, servo drives – advanced timers generate complex PWM waveforms.
Motor drives: Field‑oriented control (FOC) of high‑speed brushless motors, accelerated by the FPU.
IoT gateways: Ethernet + USB OTG + multiple serial ports enable multi‑protocol data aggregation.
Audio/video processing: I²S audio interface and DCMI camera interface.
Human‑machine interfaces: FSMC drives TFT‑LCD displays.
4. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between the STM32F407VET6TR and the STM32F407VET6?
A: Their electrical characteristics are identical. The only difference is the packaging – "TR" means tape‑and‑reel, which is intended for automated SMT assembly, while the non‑suffix version usually comes in tray packaging. Choose based on your production process.
Q: How do I provide a clock to the chip?
A: You can use an external 4–26 MHz crystal as the main clock source, or the internal 16‑MHz RC oscillator (accuracy ±1%). A separate 32‑kHz internal RC is available for low‑power RTC operation.
Q: What is the power consumption like?
A: The device supports Sleep, Stop, and Standby low‑power modes. The VBAT pin can independently power the RTC and backup registers, keeping time and critical data even when the main supply is off.
Q: What tools are needed for development and debugging?
A: It supports JTAG and Serial Wire Debug (SWD) interfaces, compatible with ST‑Link, J‑Link, and other popular debuggers. On the software side, STM32CubeMX allows graphical peripheral configuration and automatic initialisation code generation, greatly lowering the development barrier.
5. Conclusion
The STM32F407VET6TR is a powerful, feature‑rich Cortex‑M4 microcontroller. The combination of 168‑MHz core speed, FPU, 512‑KB Flash, and extensive communication interfaces enables it to handle a wide range of complex applications, from industrial control to IoT gateways. When designing with this device, focus on power decoupling, clock configuration, and pin assignment – these three aspects will help you unlock the full potential of this MCU.
